Tips for Over The Counter Nail Fungus Treatment

February 24, 2017

If you are one of the many individuals affected by toenail fungus, you’d love to know how to eliminate toenail fungus once and for all.  Many of our clients aren’t aware how they got the infection in the first place and can’t remember how long they have had it – but it’s usually a LONG time!

Among our clients we see a common pathway to resolving their infection.  It typically plays out like this: Ignore it for a couple of years, then eventually try some over the counter fungus creams from the chemist without any meaningful impact, then give up and continue to file the zealously growing nails.  It’s a cat and mouse game where sometimes you think you’re getting the better of the fungus however usually, it’s beating you!

Toenail fungus is a difficult process to reverse once infected because the fungus find their way under the nail and feed on the protein of the nail called Keratin. Keratin is the protein that makes up the hard surface of the nail itself. It’s a pretty nice and protected place to live for fungus!

Our experience is clients can’t rely on over the counter creams to solve their fungus issue because the fungus is too protected by the nail therefore the creams are unable to penetrate the nail.

In some cases we see clients present who have tried oral tablets and they report unfriendly side effects from this treatment. The fact you are required to undertake liver tests while taking oral tablets underscores the risk they present to your health.

Hot laser treatments try to fry the fungus from above, which is primitive, painful and does not have a high success rate at it struggles to effectively treat the fungus in the corners of the nail.

At the clinic we use Cold Laser nail fungus treatment because it uses two lasers which work to weaken the fungus and strengthen your body’s own immune response at the same time so that your body can fight the infection naturally.

We apply the two lasers to the toes, the first weakens the fungus and the second strengthens the body’s immune reaction by stimulating the blood flow and cell activity beneath the nail.  So rather than try and fry the fungus from the top, we enable the body to fight the fungus from below the nail.

It’s rewarding for our staff to see the high rates of success using this approach, particularly in light of the frustrating journey our clients have typically been on before they visit our clinic.
